The RX 580 and FX 6300 works fine. This says that on Ultra quality you'll only get about 20 FPS, that's not true. I have this combo and on Fortnite I get about 80 FPS on Epic at 1080p. On Apex Legends I get about 100 FPS also on max settings.

rx 580 and the GTX 1060 6GB are both good cards. They perform decently in comparison to one another. I would not get a GTX 1060 3GB though and the RX 570 would be only if I couldn't afford the GTX 1060 6Gb or RX 580. Also the RX 580 has more ram then the GTX 1060 6GB. If you gaming at 1080P then it doesn't matter all that much between 6GB vs 8GB cards but if you game at higher resolutions like 1440P then the RX 580 looks more attractive with it's larger 8GB frame buffer in the long term for gaming though performance wise it is still neck and neck with the 1060.

Cristiano_9 It depends. If you already own a RX 480, then a RX 580 would be a lateral upgrade. But if you're on a R9 3xx series, then it's worth purchasing. Rx 580 with i5 4570.
I'm having a intel i5 4570 CPU. Will there be bottleneck with rx 580?
0 0
B
barleyendowment 5 months ago
What's your definition of a bottleneck? If it's to the point where the computer won't run, then sure the i5-4570 won't bottleneck a 1080ti. However, a 1080ti will be slowed by that cpu when compared to a more powerful cpu.....so that's a bottleneck.
Would I recommend a 1080ti with an i5-4570? Hell no, it's just a waste of money as you'll never get full performance from it. The RX 580 is about right, some games will be cpu limited and other gpu but overall they are well matched.

Agree, 580. Unless your into modding games with lots of textures the extra 4gb on the 570 is pointless, its more marketing than a useful feature.

3. AIB Cards - From the above, we see that the MSI RX 480 is 7% faster overall in TPUs 16 game test suite. From Below, the MSI 1060 Gaming X is 3% faster than the reference 1060 ... so we can can conclude that at the time of testing the MSI 1060 was 10% faster than the MSI 480 in the 16 game test suite

4. Overclocking - We see there that the MSI 480 overclocks 8.6% and the MSI 1060 overclocks 15.1%.. So when the 1060 (10% performance advantage) is overclocked, the relative difference would be:

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/RX_480_Gaming_X/26.html
https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/GTX_1060_Gaming_X/27.html

110% x (115.1 / 108.6) = 116.6% of the 480s speed or 16.6 % faster

As for difference between brands ... the various brands trade wins depending on generation and model line but the EVGA SC is one to avoid as, unlike the competition, they use a reference PCB and referece style PCB cooling.

5. Driver improvements - AMDs driver improvements have improved the performance of the 480 since originally tested. As we can see from the link here, TPU tested the results from the latest driver improvements and found an increase if 2.1% at 1080 p average across 21 games:

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/Radeon_Crimson_ReLive_Drivers/6.html

Unfortunately, we have no info on what improvements have resulted from newer nVidia drivers but suffice to say, those improvements have not erased that 10% gap outta the box (16.6% in both overclocked.

6. Cost - Last I looked (yesterday) the MSI 1060 6GB was about more than the MSI 480 8GB on newegg. But there are other costs worth considering

7. Power - There is a significant difference in power usage between the two cards. One of the reasons for the MSI 480s performance,as stated in the review, is because it is able to use more power than many other 480s. That's 75 watts in typical gaming and 99 watts peak

The MSI 480 draws from 196 - 224 watts
The MSI 1060 draws from 121 - 125 watts

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/RX_480_Gaming_X/21.html

8. Power Costs - While this is something you normally wouldn't consider, when cards are very close in performance, it may be of significance to many users, especially those in Europe and especially in urban / suburban locales.

75 watts x 35 hours per week x 52.14 weeks per year x 3 years usage x .131 US average electric cost per kw-hr / (1000 watts per kw=hr x 85% efficiency) = .28

9. Case Cooling - The rule of thump for case fans in a relatively quiet system is one (1) case fan per 75 watts for power. So for comparable interior case temps, you might want to include the cost of an extra case fan.

10. Noise - The 480 is 3 dbA louder than the 1060

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/RX_480_Gaming_X/22.html
https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/GTX_1060_Gaming_X/23.html

So ... that's the data ... it's up to you to look at what you want to do with it ...

- If you don't use MSI Afterburner, then the OC advantage may be of no interest to you
- If you wear headphones, then the noise advantage will be of no interest to you
- Initially the 480 has an apparent cost advantage but the larger PSU requirement and extra case fan eats that up. Considering power costs along with the preceding, the 1060 is the more cost effective buy by far
- If you already have an oversized PSU then the power advantage is of no interest to you
- If you don't pay for electricity cause it's included in rent, then the power advantage is of no interest to you
- But most of all, if those 16 - 21 games that TPU uses for testing are not ones you play, then you need to pay specific attention to how each performs in games you do play... so start here and see how each performs in the games you are interested in.

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/RX_480_Gaming_X/6.html
https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/GTX_1060_Gaming_X/6.html

How each individual arrives at their choice will be different for everyone, there is no "wrong choice" here.
====================================================

Now the 580 is a bit faster than the 480 outta the box so it improves its position there by about 5% overall ... thatz still not enough to catch the 1060 when both are overclocked. On the downside, the 580 consumes a lot more power (25%) which also means more noise and heat

Can Rx 570 4gb beat Rx580 by overclocking.
I am planning to buy a gpu Rx570gb. If I overclock RX570 then will I get performance near to Rx580.

balearicventricle 5 months ago
Not a chance. There's a lot more to the cards than just processor and memory clocks. The 570 has less cores, less compute units, smaller cooling ability, lower clocks on memory and processor, same pcie buss, but smaller bandwidth. You could jack the speeds through the roof, but at the end of the day, the 580 simply has more horsepower.

RX 580 8GB or GTX 1060 6GB?
Trying to finalize build with graphics card which of these would you say is more future proof?

Hi Friend, as noted...comparable GPUs, though I'd lean towards the RX 580 for several reasons:

1. AMD FreeSync; though arguably "less optimal" than G-Sync...the chances of your next monitor being FreeSync are higher than nVidia's adaptive refresh tech. This point is mute if you have plans for a G-Sync monitor in your future.

2. More Video Memory; though you'll most likely hit the processing ceiling of the GPU before using the extent of the 8GB VRAM...I'd still call the RX 580 more "future proof" in this respect

3. [subjective] Greater Gaming Longevity; despite being an nVidia fanboy, I've been frustrated at their gimicky support of DX in the past (e.g.,Async-Compute), and their inclination to support proprietary standards as a rule of thumb. If all things are equal, supporting AMD is the best decision as a consumer IMO.

Either way, congrats on the upgrade plans! Both great cards!

RX 580 and GTX 1060
Should I get the 580 or the 1060?

And if the 580, is there a big difference between 4gb and 8gb?

If you can find one at a reasonable price, get an RX 580. Unless you are gaming at 1440p Ultra or above, 4GB is enough.

gtx 1060 vs rx 580 with freesync
Should I get get a gtx 1060 with freesync (yes I know it won't work) or an rx 580 with freesync? I am using an i5 8400.

the 1060 is much power efficient and have slightly better overall performance, but users are praising on AMD Free Synchronization and apparently it's worth coping with the Rx 580 extra power consumption, your decision might be easier if you have a free synchronization monitor.

RX 580 or GTX 980
i can get them both, the 980 is cheaper (about 25$) but it has no warrantly, next to the 580 rx that is few months old and has warrntly.. which should i get?

In DX 12 Radeons are generally better then NVidia cards, that's known fact. In DX 11 games, it would be 980 that's better, but like I wrote before, only slightly. Either way, both cards are good, so it's win-win situation. If warranty is important factor for you, then indeed going for 580 might sound better.

gtx 1060 or rx 580
gtx 1060 6gb, stock, and rx 580 OC. difference is that rx 580 comes cheaper. also i have a 500w bronze 80+ power supply. So is that enough for both of them?

You're on the limits with a 580 with that old seasonic to be honest.

The 1060 may be the safer choice.

That said ,I do think you'll be ok with the 580 but would suggest a psu replacement somewhere down the line.

Bear in mind , most (if not all) 580 have a 8 pin power connector.

I believe your psu only has a pair of 6 pins ?

If I'm right you are going to need a twin 6 pin to 8 pin adapter.

RX 580 / RX 480
Can a RX 580 be crossfired with a RX 480?

My question is purely academic. I don't yet own either of these cards, but I would just like to know.

Yes, it should. It is the same exact card as the 480 with some clock speed tweaks.

Amd RX 480 4GB vs AMD RX 580 4GB
Which of the two would be a better buy?
Purpose : 1080p Gaming
Want to get the best bang for buck.
PS This would be the first buy and not an upgrade from the 400 Series.

For everyday performance, there will be little if any difference between a 480/4, a 580/4 and a 480/8. They are basically the same card, all in the *80 performance range. You'd not notice or care that the 580 might get 5? Fps more, when you are already capable of fps up in the 100's+, beyond most standard monitors refresh. Detail settings will be identical.

The difference between the /4 and /8 comes into play only in certain games where they are optimized for higher vram. And it's a big difference. It's enough that it'll make or break a game at the detail settings you want. A massively detailed game like Witcher 3 or GTA:V, that's extremely fluid and fast moving is going to get bogged down at maximum settings on the 4G cards. You'll not only suffer fps loss, but to reverse the affects you'll need to drop detail settings. In the simpler, smaller games, that are more cpu dependent like WoW or flight Sims etc, it won't be an issue at all.

Having the extra vram isn't going to hurt at all, other than a few $ from the wallet. Not having the extra vram could possibly hurt in the long run if your gaming styles tend towards games requiring high vram.

As far as DX goes, 11 is different than 12, a lot more so than between 10 and 11. Most nvidia cards are designed around taking massive advantage of DX 11 and prior because that's what was the major avi of the games written. With DX12, those algorithms actually take better advantage of AMD's architecture, so it isn't so much that nvidia is not still doing its best, it's just that amd is finally catching a break and the card performance per slot is closing the gap. Back in the day, nvidia mostly had 3Gb cards for DX11, AMD was using 4Gb cards just to try and equalize the battle between like cards. Today, with DX12 titles, those older 4Gb amd cards are actually doing better now, the cards haven't changed, just the way they are used internally. With the 480/580 essentially being the same card, there won't be any real performance differences, just the little things like running slightly cooler or using less power, when judged against the exact same model

As those are in different GPU families, you very likely can't CF those GPUs.

When will AMD RX 570/580 be in stock again?
Does anyone have any information on the subject. This mining madness is driving me crazy. I'd like to get Sapphire Radeon RX 570 NITRO+ 4GB, but 570/580 have vanished from all stores worldwide.

RX 580 vs GTX 1060
I was looking to buy a card and found Viotek´s 144hz monitor and I wanted to buy the GN24C and I saw it had FreeSync. Would the performance sacrifice of buying the AMD card justify the freesync?

Yeah, the 1060 6GB and RX580 8GB generally trade blows. The RX 580 has a slight edge over the 1060 for the most part, but there are a couple of games where the 1060 beats it.

Why are the RX 480 and RX 580 so expensive now?
For a card that barely surpasses the gtx 1060, it costs around 200-300 dollars more. Why? I remember them being a reasonable 200-300 dollars but why are they hovering around the 400-500 point now?

Presumably they are expensive as they are selling out from mainstream retailers due to a new surge in mining activity. This leaves a niche for 3rd parties to ramp up the price of the cards.
