GTX 1080 with i7-6700K benchmarks at High Quality settings

With some tuning, the GTX 1080 makes the most sense for gamers with 4K monitors. Though serious gamers hardly play at 4k. In terms of memory, the GTX 1080 's 8192 MB RAM is more than enough for modern games and should not cause any bottlenecks. In short the performance is exceptional, there's no question that this is one of the most powerful single GPU out there in 2016 .

Personally, im keeping my 980 ti hybrid. I dont see any need to upgrade since it maxes 60 fps on all of my games at 1440p. I'd wait to see benchmarks tomorrow then make your decision.

What @Slumy_57 & @RobCrezz said. You're going to be at the mercy of SLI support in the games, & (unfortunately) the trend over the past couple of years is to let SLI support slide quite a bit (in a few games being so non-existent that SLI actually sees the performance drop).

That being said...the Titan X (Pascal) & GTX 1080Ti are more powerful than your current 1080 (http://www.techspot.com/review/1352-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-ti/), but the question is whether the extra performance is truly worth it. Techspot's review says that, on average, the 1080TI provides ~20-24% more performance than the 1080. That's technically true; although the increase at 1080p resolutions is technically only ~13%, that's primarily because DOOM has a 200FPS framecap; both the GTX 1080 & 1080Ti hit the cap at 1080p, & while the GTX 1080 doesn't quite make it there, it's fairly close (177FPS), while the 1080Ti is still capped at 200. On the opposite end, even with the extra performance there were still a couple of games (Deus Ex: Mankind Divided & Mafia III) where the 4K performance still isn't quite at the "single GPU" level, & even on some of the other games you're not going to max out your 4K/60Hz monitor (the 1080Ti only had 60+ FPS at 4K in 10 of the 19 games).

The biggest reason I can think of for possibly switching is to allow for smoother performance. That "20 to 24% improvement" figure pretty much holds true not only for the average FPS in the games but also the minimum FPS. When Techspot tested it, the GTX 1080Ti was able to maintain a minimum of 60FPS in all 19 games at 1440p, & 8 or 9 of the games at 4K (I say "8 or 9" because it was able to hit 59FPS minimum in Titanfall 2, which to me is close enough to include). So if your games aren't as smooth onscreen as you'd like, the 1080Ti will help out there.

That being said...

Unless you're going to sell your GTX 1080 & get some decent cash for it, buying a brand-new GTX 1080Ti just for a 25% performance improvement is basically just spending cash for bragging rights. If your system needs some improvements, the cash might be better spent on other parts.

1080 SLI will probably give you the best performance. This video shows a good comparison between them:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWtqGNmWS3Y

That said, not every application supports SLI or multi-GPU, so be careful.

GTX 1070 Ti VS GTX 1080
Hi,
Is the GTX 1080 worth buying today?
I have seen it selling for 50$ more than the GTX 1070 Ti.

Thanks.

It's larger than that.

Depends on who did the review and what GTX 1080 they compared against... MOST are using reference GTX 1080 cards... The Partner cards are MUCH faster.

Gtx 1070 ti or Gtx 1080
Hi. Should i get a Gtx 1070 ti when it come out or a gtx 1080. 1070 ti Cheaper and newer so i want it but 1080 is very good too so what should i get?

N
neogenedealt 5 months ago
well newer=better doesn't really apply here. Judging by the unconfirmed reports it's the same GPU (GP104) it's built on the same fab, identical chip size and power requirements. The 1070ti appears to be just a cut down 1080, with more CUDA cores and higher clocks than the regular 1070.

The 1080 will still perform better. End of.

which will give you better performance? not worrying about price, just wondering.

1x GTX 1080 Ti without a doubt. If you need benchmarks there are plenty around the internet for 1x 1080 Ti vs 1x 980 Ti, but very little comparing 2x 980 TI. Although they would all only be 1080 Ti Founder's Editions. I'd wait for the aftermarket 1080 Ti to come out and grab one of them, a problem with SLI is the scaling can cause issues in many games and in some it's just not supported at all. You also get double the VRAM on the 1080 Ti even tho you probably won't use more than 6GB on the 980 Ti most the time. (VRAM does not combine when running more than 1 card). Hope this help

*Edit* Wow so many answers within 2 minutes haha, there were no answers yet when i started my response :P

980 Ti SLI or GTX 1080?
Currently have an MSI GTX 980 Ti 6G. I can go SLI with another 980 Ti for 400-450 bucks or I can wait for the price of the 1080 to go down and get one. Which should I do?
0 0
O
onlookerbolham 5 months ago
You Already have a 980 Ti, Probably like you said can get another 980 Ti for 400-450$ heck maybe even a used one for cheaper if you are welling to look around im seeing around the 370-390$ range. I would advise to just get another 980 Ti since you already have one think about it:

you can either Sell yor 980 Ti add up on it and get a 1080 Which is pretty nice OR buy another 980 Ti (which will probably be around the same price after selling your existing 980 ti and adding up more money to get a 1080) for extra performance !

that is only my opinion though :P

GTX 1080 and 980 Ti in SLI?
I have a 980 Ti SLI config right now. I was wondering if I can sell one of the 980Ti and get a GTX 1080 to run with the remaining 980Ti in SLI?

Is it possible?

awokepogo 5 months ago
Unless its changed over the past few months, no. You cannot SLI two different GPUs.

There has been talk about it in DX12, but even if it works, there arnt enough DX12 games out there to make it viable.

Stick with your 980ti SLI, the 1080 is only 20% faster than a single one anyway.

Can someone clarify why palit is so cheap compared with other brands?

listen if money is no object get the msi, but if you wanna get a (afaik) inferior card get the palit. if anyone else responds or has a opinion here then wait for others to respond with their suggestion.

id just hate for you to drop cash on the palit and then hear you have problems. ive heard of zero problems with the msi gpu's. but when guys DO have problems msi has sent them new cards.

Titan x sli or Gtx 1080?
I have a titan x now, so buy second one?
Or sell one, buy a GTX 1080 with it.(can sell it for the price of a 1080)
And maybe buy a second one some time after?

Help appreciated

It's a difficult call to make. After overclocks and such the difference between the 1080 and a Titan X/980Ti is what...15-20%? If you need the extra power from the 1080, I'd suggest selling your Titan X and picking up the 1080. If you can get another Titan X at the cost of a 1080 or less, then maybe running 2 in SLI will be worth it???

By the time the 1080Ti or next Titan comes out, your current card won't fetch as much if you want to sell it. I honestly wouldn't buy another Titan X for SLI.

I hear Nvidia wants to focus on 1080 SLI - they mentioned they want to do more focused attention to SLI configurations this generation, so maybe it would be best to drop the Titan X and get a 1080 now and a second one later.

I know someone that's dumping his 980 Ti, getting the 1080 and when the 1080 Ti comes out, he's dumping his 1080 for the Ti version. So, there's always this option as well.

Up to about a month ago I would have recommended buying a 1070 Ti over a 1080 because the 1080 was still way overpriced from miner demand. For whatever reason, the 1070 Ti pretty much stayed under the radar of the miners. However, graphics card prices in general are falling and starting to return back to normal (at least on Nvidia's side).

I'm not sure what nation you live in, but in North America (US and Canada), the 1070 Ti is now only about 10% less expensive than a 1080. Case in point, EVGA's FTW2 variants. And if you shop around, you may find that a rebate offer on a 1080 even cuts that price margin difference even less:

EVGA 1070 Ti FTW2 for - 9.99 or 9.99 after .00 rebate
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1369702-REG/evga_08g_p4_6775_kr_geforce_gtx_1070_ti.html

EVGA 1080 FTW2 - 9.99 or 9.99 after .00 rebate
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1322718-REG/evga_08g_p4_6686_kr_geforce_gtx_1080_ftw2.html

An aftermarket 1070 Ti like this is about 97% of the performance as a reference (stock) 1080. However, an aftermarket 1080 leaps ahead again by a larger margin. Whether or not those extra 5-10 FPS means something to you for the increased cost is up to you. I will say this though: the GTX 1080 has higher minimum frame rates than the 1070 Ti. Something critical in gaming if you are barely above 60FPS on average at say 4K resolution. I assume your 144Hz monitor is 1080p in resolution, so in your application, you likely won't notice the difference between the two GPUs much.

I think miners are holding out for Nvidia's GTX 11xx series Volta which will be coming out starting with the GTX 1180 in July. I would wait if I were you vs. buying either card right now. Rumors are that they will be a lot more powerful and use less power than Pascal. Pricing and availability however is another story when they are released.

GTX 980 TI vs 1080
Hi All-,

So I just purchased a 2nd hand MSI 980ti 6GB. I'm wondering if its worth it seeing that theres an 1080 out there. Can you advised if I should return this and get a new 1080? TIA.

No. If you already have the 980ti in hand, a 1070 will not benefit you (unless you're doing VR stuff). Stock vs stock and OC vs OC, a 980ti will be as good or better than a 1070, at least through 1440p (4k is where they swap places, but it's still close). The only things a 1070 will bring to you is a new warranty and lower power consumption.

Nvidia GeForce GTX Titan X or GTX 1080 for VR
I can get an used gtx titan x maxwell 12gb vram version for 350 euro's , or I could get a 1080 for around 400 euro's.

What is the best card for supersampling in VR ? Titan X or gtx 1080 ?

1080 is probably better. Titan X Maxwell has more VRAM but the architecture is older. Due to the newer architecture the 1080 will run games in general a lot more smoothly than a Titan X Maxwell.

To get into it, Titan X Maxwell has more CUDA cores by about 500 IIRC. However the 1080 has a much, much higher base clock which means the extra CUDA cores means pretty much nothing, since in games clock speed is everything. Titan X has 12GB of VRAM, but its memory speed is lower than the 1080 (7 Gbs vs 10 Gbs). Really that doesn't make too much of a difference in gaming, but as I said, faster clock speeds in games in better. The memory bandwidth between the two is negligible. The newer Pascal architecture means the 1080 will run more efficiently than Maxwell will, and more games will be optimized for Pascal over Maxwell. The only reason to take the Titan X Maxwell over the 1080 is if you're going to be using all of the extra VRAM, of which I doubt you will with VR.

EDIT: In real use even the 1070 is better than the Titan X Maxwell. The pure clock speed and efficiency of the Pascal architecture makes the difference.

GTX 1080 SLI or TITAN X Pascal SLI
Excluding the GTX 1080 ti that may or may not come out, which would be better for gaming on a triple 4k monitor setup. is a gtx 1080 in sli enough or is it better to invest in 2 titan x pascal cards?

for 4K, 2 x titan X pascal it's obvious choice. but 3 x 4K, that might be overkill for any card and not all games support SLI or Xfire. So those 2 cards only gonna benefit you, if a particular game support SLI or Xfire
and I also saw some videos from CES 2017, which shows AMDs upcoming CPU(Ryzen) + GPU(Vega) goes up to 70 FPS in DOOM @4K max settings, if you can wait for AMDs products then should wait

The 1080 Ti is going to be about the same performance (give or take) as SLI 980 Ti's but without the SLI hassle. Basically it comes down to your thoughts on SLI and how much you want to spend (a second 980 Ti being cheaper than a 1080 Ti).

Is GTX 1070 Ti overkill for 1080p 60Hz?
Hello. I'm planning to upgrade from my GTX 1050 Ti to a 1060 6GB. But then i found online a bunch of used 1070 Ti for almost the same price as retail 1060. Should i upgrade to a 1070 Ti? Is it overkill for 1080p 60Hz?

1070ti for 1080p 60Hz.
It is an overkill for now but it is not a bad pick if you want a bit of a future proofing.
If the price of an 1070ti is almost the same as 1060 6GB, I would grab 1070ti without even asking.

Gtx 1080 or next Titan?
I have a GTX 980 TI and I am severely concerned about the frames per second that I will get in battlefield one. Should I upgrade to a 1080 or a GTX titan P, or should I just keep my 980 TI and wait for the benchmarks to come out?

1) What MONITOR do you have?

A nice GSYNC monitor can give a really smooth gaming experience, no screen tear, at fairly low frame rates.

2) Concerned with GTX980Ti performance?
Considering a highly overclocked GTX980Ti is about the same as a GTX1080 then you wouldn't gain much.

3) WHY are you concerned?

4) What CPU do you own?

5) Even once BENCHMARKS are out, you can often get very similar visuals to the "Ultra" settings by tweaking settings while doing so at significantly LOWER frame rates.

That includes RESOLUTION. There's usually not much benefit visually going above 2560x1440. For some games, going above 1920x1080 (with suitable anti-aliasing) doesn't gain too much (it mostly has to do with the HUD text elements, textures used etc).

I don't play World of Warcraft but I game at 1440p with a single 980 Ti and I average about 55FPS in The Witcher 3, 58 FPS in Rise of the Tomb Raider and around 60 FPS in Fallout 4. All graphics settings at maximum. A GTX 1070 will be a little faster than a 980 Ti and a GTX 1080 will be 30% or more faster.

GTX 1080 or Titan X
Hi, very soon I'm building a gaming PC and I'm stuck between 2 graphics cards these are the GTX 1080 MSI GAMING X or the Gigabyte Titan X. I would like to know what one is better for what you pay/value and for and what one is better for gaming.

I'd go with a 1080. You could pick up two 1080s for the price of a Titan X, and it isn't twice as powerful. I wouldn't go with a 1070 if you have the budget for a 1080, there's a significant enough difference in performance to justify the jump in price there.

Gtx 1070 or Gtx 1080 or Gtx 1080 Ti
Hi,
I'm going to build a pc but i'm not sure about which graphics card i should get. I have a 1080p 144hz monitor and i would like my pc to achive 144fps in games like Overwatch, Rocketleague; And some other non-demanding games.

1070 is fine for your needs......however at current mining craze inflated prices the 1070 is only -60 cheaper than the 1080; thus if you are going to buy today at those inflated prices then you might as well get the 1080.

Getting a 1070ti is the smarter choice in this scenario, performance degradation is present in the 1080 mini card that you want the 1070ti actually has a good amount of overclocking room but at the end of the day it is up to you .
