GTX 1080 with Athlon II X4 631 benchmarks at Ultra Quality settings

With some tuning, the GTX 1080 makes the most sense for gamers with 4K monitors. Though serious gamers hardly play at 4k. In terms of memory, the GTX 1080 's 8192 MB RAM is more than enough for modern games and should not cause any bottlenecks. This combination between GTX 1080 and AMD Athlon II X4 631 Quad-Core is going to cause serious bottlenecks in many games and cause severe FPS loss. In short the performance is exceptional, there's no question that this is one of the most powerful single GPU out there in 2016 .

The good news is, with the release of the GTX 1080 Ti, the GTX 1080 's price is getting more discount. NVIDIA ’s xx80 cards have always been defined by high-end prices with performance that knocks on the door of extreme graphics cards – especially when overclocked. After taking the time to fully test the Pascal graphics card inside the GTX 1080, we can say without a doubt that it continues the trend.

The GTX 1080 has 8 GB RAM compared to the GTX 980 's 4 GB video memory. Unfortunately, gaming performance was not quite as impressive. Even if the GTX 1080 consistently delivers frame rate increases over the GTX 980, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti, the gain is not much to justify an upgrade.

For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play Borderlands 3, Anthem, Just Cause 4, Gears of War 5, Final Fantasy XV at 68 fps to 86 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 80 fps. For 1440p Quad HD, we were able to play Gears of War 5, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Just Cause 4, Final Fantasy XV, Monster Hunter: World at 62 fps to 64 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 63 fps.

For 2160p 4K, we were able to play Forza Horizon 4 at 65 fps to 65 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 65 fps.

Personally, im keeping my 980 ti hybrid. I dont see any need to upgrade since it maxes 60 fps on all of my games at 1440p. I'd wait to see benchmarks tomorrow then make your decision.
