Our Verdict: At 1440p, GTX 1060 6GB can hit 50-60 frames per second on pretty much everything at ultra, just without antialiasing, less ambient occlusion and turned down shadows. Whereas RTX 2080 can hit 50-60 frames per second at maximum settings. With some tuning, the RTX 2080 makes the most sense for gamers with 4K monitors and it is better than GTX 1060 6GB by a margin. Though serious gamers hardly play at 4k. The RTX 2080 is faster by 117% for 1440p gaming. For 1080p games, upgrading from GTX 1060 6GB to RTX 2080 is not worth it if targeting 60 frames per second. In addition, taking into account the huge price difference between the two, the GTX 1060 6GB is a winner. The price/performance ratio is much better for GTX 1060 6GB .

GTX 1060 6GB vs RTX 2080 with i7-6700K vs i7-8700K at 1080p and ultra vs ultra settings

GTX 1060 6GB vs RTX 2080 with i7-6700K vs i7-8700K at 4K and ultra vs ultra settings

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB / i7-6700K

At 1440p, GTX 1060 6GB can hit 50-60 fps on pretty much everything at ultra, just without antialiasing, less ambient occlusion and turned down shadows. It is clear that the GTX 1060 6GB is a significantly more capable high-end card that can play AAA titles at 1080p/1440p with 50-60 frames per second. The price/performance ratio is excellent for GTX 1060 6GB against the competition in budget mid-range cards. In terms of memory, the GTX 1060 6GB 's 6144 MB RAM is more than enough for modern games and should not cause any bottlenecks.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 / i7-8700K

It is worth noting that the RTX 2080 is a very power hungry card and requires a decent power supply unit. In terms of memory, the RTX 2080 's 8192 MB RAM is more than enough for modern games and should not cause any bottlenecks. Deciding whether to invest so much money in a high-end GPU like RTX 2080 requires careful thought. 4K gaming is joyous on this RTX 2080 , and with a little tweaking to your AA settings, it'd be hard to imagine a title not capable of 60 fps on average.
