The price/performance ratio is excellent for GTX 1060 6GB against the competition in budget mid-range cards. In terms of memory, the GTX 1060 6GB 's 6144 MB RAM is more than enough for modern games and should not cause any bottlenecks.

Go for the GTX 1060, it not only has double the VRAM of that the GTX 780 Ti's, but it's got driver support, which means better performance in rendering. Also, don't ever go for the GTX 690, it's (or was) VERY expensive for absolutely no reason. (Unless if you've mistaken it for the GTX 960)

I have a GTX 770 with a 10% core OC and a 20% Mem OC. I'm wanting to upgrade my graphics card but I don't know which to get. I can overclock the 780Ti Classified but the Gigabyte GTX1060 only has a 4+1 power phase so it has limited overclocking. Would the performance gained from a 1060 be worth spending the extra -80?

I definitely would get the GTX1060 6GB

(AMD RX-480 8GB is also worth considering. If you have a good CPU that's also a good choice. It's not quite as good for older titles but pulling ahead for newer so one isn't definitely better than the other.)

1) POWER PHASES aren't directly related to overclocking.

The GTX1060 and newer GPU's are running close to their maximum already which is why there's little overclocking left.

2) 3GB is not enough for some games currently to prevent stutter, and that's only going to get worse as many newer games are VRAM hungry. Proven with the GTX1060 3GB card vs underclocked GTX1060 6GB.

The GTX780Ti if it overclocks well will close the gap, but again I don't recommend it due to VRAM.

Also, the newer cards are much quieter and even can disable the fans. In addition, is that USED? If so, if it fails you are SOL.

4) No mention of CPU as well. If it's relatively weak it will bottleneck (but it varies by the game).

5) *You can expect about 2x the FPS in games with GTX1060 6GB vs your GTX770.

6) You can still TWEAK a GTX1060 but it's more complicated. On my GTX1080 I did THIS:
a) 5% overclock on my FTW card, then
b) used EVGA Precision and clicked "MANUAL" for the frequency/voltage graph. This takes several minutes but will optimize the voltage for each of the frequency points to minimize the heat and thus reduce throttling due to temperature.

So I gained 10% or so in some games but it varies as to whether the game is even running at the throttle point.

Hey guys,

I'm in a situation where I can essentially swap out a 780 TI 3GB to a 1060 3GB at no cost if I sell the 780 TI. I know the 1060 is a gimped version of the 6GB card, but when comparing to a 780 TI 3GB would this be a good upgrade?

I remember reading somewhere that a GTX 1060 should be equal to a GTX 980. The 780 TI being lower than a GTX 980 probably means it's a good upgrade especially when considering the lower power requirements.

The only thing is, benchmarks and performance for the GTX 1060 3GB mini versions are very hard to find. Especially those comparing it to a 780 TI in real world frame rates.

Does anyone have these cards and put them through their benchmarks? Or know of some articles showing which is better?

780 ti offers ~ 85% of the performance of a 1060 6GB. Given the reduced performance of the 3GB version, it probably won't give more than a 10% performance boost. Not worth it in my opinion, unless you're getting the 1060 for a really good deal or a trade for your 780 ti.

Edit: oops, didn't read the OP well enough. If you can exchange your 780 Ti for a 1060 at no cost, that's a good deal.

Hello guys. Probably been beat to death already, but I can't seem to find specific answers to these questions.
Sorry if they have been asked before, but I havent found them, if so. In any event:
1. Considering upgrading my gtx780.
Why? I have no idea. I have a pile of chase reward points and coupled with the easy eBay sale of my 780 plus a little cash could net me a gtx1070.
Could get the gtx1060 with nothing but chase bank points. I'm wanting the MSI gaming 1070 to match my rig (that I hardly ever look at haha).
Here's the thing, I only play BF4 atm (and not a whole lot of that...job wife kids etc etc). The only other game I am considering lately is Doom.
Play 1080p 60hz. Rest of rig is MSI g45, 4670k and 16gb of GSkill.
Any reason at all to get either of those cards? Not planning on buying a new monitor anytime soon.
Any reason at all besides just wanting to buy something new for my computer anyways lol. I know the 1070 will drastically increase frame rates, but my 780 pulls very good rates at ultra. The 1060 I feel would be more of a side grade. But no actual monetary outlay, new architecture, way less power consumption, less heat, noise etc etc.
Plus I can still get between 120-170 for the old girl (780) on ebay.
Thoughts? Advice? Hit me.
2. For some reason I recall reading that the 10 series is not compatible with Windows 7. I can't find a definitive answer on this. I would assume it's incorrect, but would like to confirm (maybe it's dx12 that doesn't work with W7?).

1070 seems a bit overkill for 1080p 60hz. GTX780 should suffice. Since you don't plan on upgrading to a newer monitor (144hz or 1440p), then the 780 already runs the games you play really well then what's the point of upgrading. The 10 series should be compadible with Windows 7. You just won't be able to take advantage of dx12 since it's not supported on Windows 7.
