Our Verdict: Upgrading from GTX 780 Ti to GTX 1060 6GB is not recommended as it is less than 30% of improvement in performance. In general, a reasonable upgrade is between 30% and 50% or more to justify the purchase of new hardware. The price/performance ratio is much better for GTX 1060 6GB .

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

The GTX 1070 might be the mid-range flagship of the latest Pascal set of graphics cards, but their prices keep them out of the reach of most entry-level PC gamers. On the other hand, the GTX 1060 6GB is closer to being reasonably affordable at a price tag of $ 254. NVIDIA ’s xx60 cards have always been defined by entry-level prices with performance that knocks on the door of mid-range graphics cards – especially when overclocked. After taking the time to fully test the Pascal graphics card inside the GTX 1060 6GB, we can say without a doubt that it continues the trend.

The GTX 1060 6GB is much more expensive than the GTX 960 as it costs a whopping $ 254. Compare this to the GTX 960, which came originally at a price of $ 199. Meanwhile, the AMD closest equivalent card is the RX 580 which costs $ 229. Spec for spec, this GTX 1060 6GB leapfrogs its direct predecessor, the GTX 960, by boasting 2 % more fps.

The GTX 1060 6GB has 6 GB RAM compared to the GTX 960 's 2 GB video memory. In our synthetic benchmarks, the GTX 1060 6GB blows past the GTX 960 and, amazingly, even the GTX 970 as well.

Fortunately, gaming performance was quite impressive. The GTX 1060 6GB consistently delivers great frame rate increases over the GTX 960 and it really justifies an upgrade. For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play Hitman 2, Apex Legends, F1 2019, World War Z, Battlefield V at 61 fps to 68 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 65 fps.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti

The GTX 780 Ti is much more expensive than the GTX 680 as it costs a whopping $ 699. Compare this to the GTX 680, which came originally at a price of $ 499. Meanwhile, the AMD closest equivalent card is the HD 7990 which costs $ 999. The GTX 780 Ti has 3 GB RAM compared to the GTX 680 's 2 GB video memory.

Unfortunately, gaming performance was not quite as impressive. Even if the GTX 780 Ti consistently delivers frame rate increases over the GTX 680, the gain is not much to justify an upgrade. Whether it is a justifiable upgrade depends on what graphics card you are upgrading from. Users with a GTX 680 will not see a remarkable increase in frame rates after paying more for this GTX 780 Ti. Similarly, those holding onto HD 7990 's HD 6990 graphics cards will not have a reason to jump teams yet.

For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play F1 2019, World War Z, Apex Legends, Call of Duty Modern Warfare, Resident Evil 2 at 60 fps to 74 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 66 fps.

At 1440p, GTX 1060 6GB can hit 50-60 fps on pretty much everything at ultra, just without antialiasing, less ambient occlusion and turned down shadows. It is clear that the GTX 1060 6GB is a significantly more capable high-end card that can play AAA titles at 1080p/1440p with 50-60 frames per second. The price/performance ratio is excellent for GTX 1060 6GB against the competition in budget mid-range cards. In terms of memory, the GTX 1060 6GB 's 6144 MB RAM is more than enough for modern games and should not cause any bottlenecks.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti / i7-3770K

It is worth noting that the GTX 780 Ti is a very power hungry card and requires a decent power supply unit. This combination between GTX 780 Ti and Intel Core i7-3770K @ 3.50GHz has less than 8% bottleneck in many games and is perfect match to avoid FPS loss. Deciding whether to invest so much money in a high-end GPU like GTX 780 Ti requires careful thought. This combination between GTX 780 Ti and Intel Core i7-3770K @ 3.50GHz is a perfect match to avoid FPS loss. With current 3072 MB RAM, the GTX 780 Ti can have very few memory-related bottlenecks in more modern games.

1060 imo because in some games it slightly edges out the 780ti, and uses less power and is bit more efficient.

Go for the GTX 1060, it not only has double the VRAM of that the GTX 780 Ti's, but it's got driver support, which means better performance in rendering. Also, don't ever go for the GTX 690, it's (or was) VERY expensive for absolutely no reason. (Unless if you've mistaken it for the GTX 960)

I have a GTX 770 with a 10% core OC and a 20% Mem OC. I'm wanting to upgrade my graphics card but I don't know which to get. I can overclock the 780Ti Classified but the Gigabyte GTX1060 only has a 4+1 power phase so it has limited overclocking. Would the performance gained from a 1060 be worth spending the extra -80?6GB Gigabyte Windforce OC03GB EVGA GTX780Ti Classified 5-0

I definitely would get the GTX1060 6GB(AMD RX-480 8GB is also worth considering. If you have a good CPU that's also a good choice. It's not quite as good for older titles but pulling ahead for newer so one isn't definitely better than the other.)1) POWER PHASES aren't directly related to overclocking.The GTX1060 and newer GPU's are running close to their maximum already which is why there's little overclocking left. 2) 3GB is not enough for some games currently to prevent stutter, and that's only going to get worse as many newer games are VRAM hungry. Proven with the GTX1060 3GB card vs underclocked GTX1060 6GB.3) Performance: https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_1060/26.htmlThe GTX780Ti if it overclocks well will close the gap, but again I don't recommend it due to VRAM.Also, the newer cards are much quieter and even can disable the fans. In addition, is that USED? If so, if it fails you are SOL.4) No mention of CPU as well. If it's relatively weak it will bottleneck (but it varies by the game).5) *You can expect about 2x the FPS in games with GTX1060 6GB vs your GTX770.6) You can still TWEAK a GTX1060 but it's more complicated. On my GTX1080 I did THIS:a) 5% overclock on my FTW card, thenb) used EVGA Precision and clicked "MANUAL" for the frequency/voltage graph. This takes several minutes but will optimize the voltage for each of the frequency points to minimize the heat and thus reduce throttling due to temperature.So I gained 10% or so in some games but it varies as to whether the game is even running at the throttle point.

Hey guys,I'm in a situation where I can essentially swap out a 780 TI 3GB to a 1060 3GB at no cost if I sell the 780 TI. I know the 1060 is a gimped version of the 6GB card, but when comparing to a 780 TI 3GB would this be a good upgrade?I remember reading somewhere that a GTX 1060 should be equal to a GTX 980. The 780 TI being lower than a GTX 980 probably means it's a good upgrade especially when considering the lower power requirements. The only thing is, benchmarks and performance for the GTX 1060 3GB mini versions are very hard to find. Especially those comparing it to a 780 TI in real world frame rates.Does anyone have these cards and put them through their benchmarks? Or know of some articles showing which is better?Thanks.

Given the reduced performance of the 3GB version, it probably won't give more than a 10% performance boost. Not worth it in my opinion, unless you're getting the 1060 for a really good deal or a trade for your 780 ti.Edit: oops, didn't read the OP well enough. If you can exchange your 780 Ti for a 1060 at no cost, that's a good deal.
