It is clear that the GTX 1060 is a significantly more capable high-end card that can play AAA titles at 1080p/1440p with 50-60 frames per second. The price/performance ratio is excellent for GTX 1060 against the competition in budget mid-range cards. In terms of memory, the GTX 1060 's 6144 MB RAM is more than enough for modern games and should not cause any bottlenecks.

It is worth noting that the R9 FURY X is a very power hungry card and requires a decent power supply unit. With regards to max load temperature, the R9 FURY X 's cooling is excellent at keeping it cool and under control. Deciding whether to invest so much money in a high-end GPU like R9 FURY X requires careful thought. With current 4096 MB RAM, the R9 FURY X can have very few memory-related bottlenecks in more modern games.

Fury, by FAAAAAAR (considering you have a good power supply)

In Europe, Fury is cheaper than the 1060, so it's really a no brainer.

With 1060 cheaper than the Fury, then it's up to you


Fury: more powerful, crossfireable, but more powerhungry. Sapphire Fury Nitro OC is cool and very quiet.
1060: less powerful, not SLIable, but clearly less powerhungry. Probably quiet and cool as the Fury, but not more. Mu Fury runs at max 70C and is literally inaudible.

Consider the long run dude.


If you think you'll switch graphic card in 2 or 3 years, then take the cheapest. If you want to take maximum years out of it with the opportunity to crossfire it later on, then take the Fury.

To recall, when games are correctly optimized (which is the case for most of the AAA titles, except GTAV) 2x Fury are quicker than a 1080...

So yeah, I'd go for the fury... It won't leave you stuck in the future as the 1060 will.

I have an option to sell my GF GTX 1060 3gb Zotac AMP!Edition for 240euro and buy a 8month old r9 fury Nitro for 210e, its working great. Is this a good replacement/upgrade?

to be honest i have hard time recommending the fury series at such low resolution. the fury usually shine the best at much higher resolution (like 4k) but at such very high res it's 4GB of VRAM can be an issue unless AMD make specific optimization to that game. and don't be surprise if in certain title (at 1080p) the Fury barely any faster than your current 1060 3GB. it is because of this inconsistency that i having hard time recommending the fury series. back when the price still not inflated to super crazy level because of mining if you only play at 1080p i would recommend RX480/580 more over the fury even if the fury can be had just for a bit more.

I can't decide between this two cards. I can get them both at the same price, but since I'm making a build I would like to know which one is more future proof for FullHD(1080p) gaming.

I know 1060 just released a couple of months and R9 Fury is a year old already, but is that relevant? Also 1060 has 6Gb vs the 4Gb the R9 Fury has. Some insight would be appreciated.

The R9 Fury Nitro is a slightly upgraded version of the standard R9 Fury.

GTX 1060 performance - 3855 GFLOPS, 120 GTx/s, 72 GPx/s, memory bandwidth 192 GB/s, power draw ~ 120 W. Has 6 GB VRAM

R9 Fury Nitro performance - 7526 GFLOPS, 235 GTx/s, 67 GPx/s, memory bandwidth 512 GB/s, power draw ~ 300 W. Has 4 GB VRAM

So the R9 Fury Nitro is (theoretically) the faster performing video card, but at the expense of considerable power consumption (300 W).

Debatable as to whether the 6 GB of VRAM on the GTX 1060 is of significant advantage over the 4 GB VRAM on the R9 Fury Nitro. But at 1080p, 4 GB should be more than enough memory to run just about any video intensive game / application.

Hi,

i can get both the rx 480 and the r9 fury for the same price or a gtx 1060 for more. ( all the cards are sealed and brand new )

I currently have a 1080p 60Hz single monitor setup and plan on getting 1440p but not too soon.

I'd like to keep the card for at least 3 years to come, i don't like upgrading that often. which one of them would be the best option for my case?

please share your opinions.

For this price, R9 Fury of course... but in order to utilize it, you may need a new power supply, also get a 1440p monitor now. It can deliver 1440p 60 fps @high quality... 3 years from now may be medium.

480 and 1060 are only good for 1080p 60pHz and you can have solid 3 years with them.

You can run R9 Fury at 1080p 60pHz, but it is an overkill.

I sell my old PC and now I need buy new card .

In old PC I use MSI GTX980 . I have LG 29 ultrawide 2560x1080 resolution .
Its work great for my GTX980 .

Now I dont know what card I will buy .

All are used card .

By price they go like this :
Sapphire r9 fury > MSI gamingX gtx1060 6gb >Gainward GTX980 > STRIX r9 390

Now , I will buy r9 390 from my friend but I dont know if that card perform well like gtx980 or less but not more than 10-5% .

So in my current pcpartpicker build, there is a gtx 1060 FTW 6gb. I was trying to shave off some money and I found out that there was an R9 Fury going for 30 dollars less than the 1060. I looked at user benchmark and found out that the R9 Fury was faster. Should I go for the fury or stay with the 1060 or perhaps an Rx 480? Temps do not really matter for me because it is hot where I live and I have to have the air conditioner on all day.

So I currently have a zotac gtx 1060 3gb with a i5 4460 16 gigs of ram and ssd I currently do not like my performance I'm only getting like 60 fps on bf1 with major drops to 30 or 40.. This is due to cpu bottleneck and 3gbs of vram see it pushes past 3gbs vram on even high settings on bf1 which is rediciclous... Also its better to have i7 for bf1... So my question is it worth upgrading to a r9 fury I will be using the i5 4460 for alittle bit then I'm moving to a i7 4790k.. So will a i5 4460 bottleneck r9 fury? I also have a 600 Watt psu which is fine for a r9 fury I think.. I also want to know if 4gb hbm is enough for all 1080p gaming on even ultra on any game? I'm also Def open to ideas for different gpus money is not an issue. I like the gtx 1060 6gb but I don't think it's on par with r9 fury and the fury is cheap as hell on Amazon lol. So last question lol would it be better to do gtx 1060 6gb or r9 fury I also heard you can unlock fury to fury x.

Well HBM memory is different from gddr5 im gonna assume 4gb of hmb shuld definitely be enough since the fury is currently amds flagship and is really meant to play 1440p so u shuld be fine but id look up so more info about that there should be many youtube vids on it
