Our Verdict: Upgrading from GTX 980 Ti to RX Vega 56 is not recommended as it is less than 30% of improvement in performance. In general, a reasonable upgrade is between 30% and 50% or more to justify the purchase of new hardware. The price/performance ratio is much better for RX Vega 56 .

AMD Radeon RX Vega 56

The RX Vega 64 might be the high-end flagship of the latest GCN 5.0 set of graphics cards, but their prices keep them out of the reach of most mid-range PC gamers. On the other hand, the RX Vega 56 is closer to being reasonably affordable at a price tag of $ 399. AMD ’s xx56 cards have always been defined by mid-range prices with performance that knocks on the door of high-end graphics cards – especially when overclocked. After taking the time to fully test the GCN 5.0 graphics card inside the RX Vega 56, we can say without a doubt that it continues the trend.

For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play Borderlands 3, Anthem, Need For Speed: Heat, Final Fantasy XV, Just Cause 4 at 63 fps to 76 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 71 fps. For 1440p Quad HD, we were able to play GreedFall, F1 2019, Forza Horizon 4, Far Cry New Dawn, Resident Evil 2 at 65 fps to 80 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 73 fps.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti

Spec for spec, this GTX 980 Ti leapfrogs its direct predecessor, the GTX 780, by boasting 2 % more fps. The GTX 980 Ti has 6 GB RAM compared to the GTX 780 's 3 GB video memory.

Fortunately, gaming performance was quite impressive. The GTX 980 Ti consistently delivers great frame rate increases over the GTX 780, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti and it really justifies an upgrade. For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play Just Cause 4, Gears of War 5, Monster Hunter: World, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy XV at 61 fps to 68 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 64 fps.

For 1440p Quad HD, we were able to play Apex Legends, Resident Evil 2, Call of Duty Modern Warfare, World War Z, Strange Brigade at 60 fps to 69 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 66 fps.
