Our Verdict: Upgrading from RTX 3080 to RX 6800 XT is not recommended as it is less than 30% of improvement in performance. In general, a reasonable upgrade is between 30% and 50% or more to justify the purchase of new hardware.

AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT

The RX 6900 XT might be the extreme flagship of the latest RDNA 2.0 set of graphics cards, but their prices keep them out of the reach of most high-end PC gamers. On the other hand, the RX 6800 XT is closer to being reasonably affordable at a price tag of $ 649. The RX 6800 XT is much more expensive than the RX 5700 XT as it costs a whopping $ 649. Compare this to the RX 5700 XT, which came originally at a price of $ 399. Meanwhile, the NVIDIA closest equivalent card is the RTX 3080 which costs $ 699.

Spec for spec, this RX 6800 XT leapfrogs its direct predecessor, the RX 5700 XT, by boasting 2 % more fps. The RX 6800 XT has 16 GB RAM compared to the RX 5700 XT 's 8 GB video memory.

Fortunately, gaming performance was quite impressive. The RX 6800 XT consistently delivers great frame rate increases over the RX 5700 XT and it really justifies an upgrade. For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play Microsoft Flight Simulator, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead Redemption 2, Metro Exodus at 68 fps to 131 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 103 fps.

For 1440p Quad HD, we were able to play Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Red Dead Redemption 2, Marvel's Avengers, Cyberpunk 2077, Assassin's Creed Odyssey at 90 fps to 100 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 94 fps. For 2160p 4K, we were able to play Metro Exodus, GreedFall, Cyberpunk 2077, Godfall, Monster Hunter: World at 60 fps to 66 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 61 fps.

The RTX 3090 might be the extreme flagship of the latest Ampere set of graphics cards, but their prices keep them out of the reach of most high-end PC gamers. On the other hand, the RTX 3080 is closer to being reasonably affordable at a price tag of $ 699. The good news is, with the release of the RTX 3080 Ti, the RTX 3080 's price is getting more discount.

Spec for spec, this RTX 3080 leapfrogs its direct predecessor, the RTX 2080, by boasting 2 % more fps. The RTX 3080 has 10 GB RAM compared to the RTX 2080 's 8 GB video memory.

For 2160p 4K, we were able to play Assassin's Creed Valhalla, GreedFall, Cyberpunk 2077, Godfall, Metro Exodus at 61 fps to 64 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 63 fps.
