Our Verdict: Upgrading from RX 570 to RX 5500 XT 8GB is not recommended as it is less than 30% of improvement in performance. In general, a reasonable upgrade is between 30% and 50% or more to justify the purchase of new hardware.

AMD Radeon RX 570

The RX 580 might be the mid-range flagship of the latest GCN 4.0 set of graphics cards, but their prices keep them out of the reach of most entry-level PC gamers. On the other hand, the RX 570 is closer to being reasonably affordable at a price tag of $ 169. AMD ’s xx70 cards have always been defined by entry-level prices with performance that knocks on the door of mid-range graphics cards – especially when overclocked. After taking the time to fully test the GCN 4.0 graphics card inside the RX 570, we can say without a doubt that it continues the trend.

Unfortunately, gaming performance was not quite as impressive. Even if the RX 570 consistently delivers frame rate increases over the RX 470, the gain is not much to justify an upgrade. For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play Fallout 76, Apex Legends, Battlefield V, Call of Duty Modern Warfare, Resident Evil 2 at 61 fps to 74 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 68 fps.

On the other hand, the RX 5500 XT 8GB is closer to being reasonably affordable at a price tag of $ 199. AMD ’s xx00 cards have always been defined by entry-level prices with performance that knocks on the door of mid-range graphics cards – especially when overclocked. After taking the time to fully test the RDNA 1.0 graphics card inside the RX 5500 XT 8GB, we can say without a doubt that it continues the trend.

The RX 5500 XT 8GB has 8 GB RAM compared to the RX 570 's 4 GB video memory. In our synthetic benchmarks, the RX 5500 XT 8GB blows past the RX 570 and, amazingly, even the RX 580 as well.

Unfortunately, gaming performance was not quite as impressive. Even if the RX 5500 XT 8GB consistently delivers frame rate increases over the RX 570, the gain is not much to justify an upgrade. Whether it is a justifiable upgrade depends on what graphics card you are upgrading from. Users with a RX 570 will not see a remarkable increase in frame rates after paying more for this RX 5500 XT 8GB. Similarly, those holding onto GTX 1660 's GTX 1060 6GB graphics cards will not have a reason to jump teams yet.

For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play GreedFall, Final Fantasy XV, Far Cry New Dawn, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, F1 2019 at 61 fps to 68 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 64 fps. For 1440p Quad HD, we were able to play Strange Brigade, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Fallout 76, World War Z, Battlefield V at 61 fps to 72 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 66 fps.

AMD Radeon RX 570 / i7-7700K

It appears that the RX 570 is a more capable mid-range card that can play AAA titles at 1080p with 60 frames per second. The price/performance ratio is excellent for RX 570 against the competition in budget mid-range cards. With current 4096 MB RAM, the RX 570 can have very few memory-related bottlenecks in more modern games.

AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB / i7-8700K

At 1440p, RX 5500 XT 8GB can hit 50-60 fps on pretty much everything at ultra, just without antialiasing, less ambient occlusion and turned down shadows. It is clear that the RX 5500 XT 8GB is a significantly more capable high-end card that can play AAA titles at 1080p/1440p with 50-60 frames per second. The price/performance ratio is excellent for RX 5500 XT 8GB against the competition in budget mid-range cards. In terms of memory, the RX 5500 XT 8GB 's 8192 MB RAM is more than enough for modern games and should not cause any bottlenecks.
