Our Verdict: Upgrading from RX 570 to R9 FURY is not recommended as it is less than 30% of improvement in performance. In general, a reasonable upgrade is between 30% and 50% or more to justify the purchase of new hardware. The price/performance ratio is much better for RX 570 .

AMD Radeon RX 570

The RX 580 might be the mid-range flagship of the latest GCN 4.0 set of graphics cards, but their prices keep them out of the reach of most entry-level PC gamers. On the other hand, the RX 570 is closer to being reasonably affordable at a price tag of $ 169. AMD ’s xx70 cards have always been defined by entry-level prices with performance that knocks on the door of mid-range graphics cards – especially when overclocked. After taking the time to fully test the GCN 4.0 graphics card inside the RX 570, we can say without a doubt that it continues the trend.

Unfortunately, gaming performance was not quite as impressive. Even if the RX 570 consistently delivers frame rate increases over the RX 470, the gain is not much to justify an upgrade. For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play Fallout 76, Apex Legends, Battlefield V, Call of Duty Modern Warfare, Resident Evil 2 at 61 fps to 74 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 68 fps.

AMD Radeon R9 FURY

The good news is, with the release of the R9 FURY X, the R9 FURY 's price is getting more discount. The R9 FURY is much more expensive than the R9 390 as it costs a whopping $ 549. Compare this to the R9 390, AMD Radeon R9 390X, which came originally at a price of $ 329, $ 429. Meanwhile, the NVIDIA closest equivalent card is the GTX 980 which costs $ 549.

Unfortunately, gaming performance was not quite as impressive. Even if the R9 FURY consistently delivers frame rate increases over the R9 390, AMD Radeon R9 390X, the gain is not much to justify an upgrade. Whether it is a justifiable upgrade depends on what graphics card you are upgrading from. Users with a R9 390, AMD Radeon R9 390X will not see a remarkable increase in frame rates after paying more for this R9 FURY. Similarly, those holding onto GTX 980 's GTX 780 graphics cards will not have a reason to jump teams yet.

For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play GreedFall, Final Fantasy XV, F1 2019, Far Cry New Dawn, Apex Legends at 61 fps to 72 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 67 fps. For 1440p Quad HD, we were able to play Strange Brigade, World War Z, Battlefield V, Fallout 76 at 61 fps to 72 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 67 fps.

RX 570 vs R9 FURY with i7-7700K vs i7-4790K at 1080p and ultra vs ultra settings

AMD Radeon RX 570 / i7-7700K

It appears that the RX 570 is a more capable mid-range card that can play AAA titles at 1080p with 60 frames per second. The price/performance ratio is excellent for RX 570 against the competition in budget mid-range cards. With current 4096 MB RAM, the RX 570 can have very few memory-related bottlenecks in more modern games.

AMD Radeon R9 FURY / i7-4790K

At 1440p, R9 FURY can hit 50-60 fps on pretty much everything at ultra, just without antialiasing, less ambient occlusion and turned down shadows. It is worth noting that the R9 FURY is a very power hungry card and requires a decent power supply unit. With current 4096 MB RAM, the R9 FURY can have very few memory-related bottlenecks in more modern games.
