Our Verdict: Upgrading from RX 5600 XT to RTX 2070 is not recommended as it is less than 30% of improvement in performance. In general, a reasonable upgrade is between 30% and 50% or more to justify the purchase of new hardware. The price/performance ratio is much better for RX 5600 XT .

AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT

The RX 5700 might be the high-end flagship of the latest RDNA 1.0 set of graphics cards, but their prices keep them out of the reach of most mid-range PC gamers. On the other hand, the RX 5600 XT is closer to being reasonably affordable at a price tag of $ 279. AMD ’s xx00 cards have always been defined by mid-range prices with performance that knocks on the door of high-end graphics cards – especially when overclocked. After taking the time to fully test the RDNA 1.0 graphics card inside the RX 5600 XT, we can say without a doubt that it continues the trend.

Unfortunately, gaming performance was not quite as impressive. Even if the RX 5600 XT consistently delivers frame rate increases over the RX 590, the gain is not much to justify an upgrade. For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play Borderlands 3, Anthem, Need For Speed: Heat, Just Cause 4, Gears of War 5 at 66 fps to 83 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 76 fps.

For 1440p Quad HD, we were able to play Just Cause 4, Final Fantasy XV, Monster Hunter: World, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, GreedFall at 61 fps to 68 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 64 fps.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070

The RTX 2080 might be the high-end flagship of the latest Turing set of graphics cards, but their prices keep them out of the reach of most mid-range PC gamers. On the other hand, the RTX 2070 is closer to being reasonably affordable at a price tag of $ 499. The good news is, with the release of the RTX 2070 SUPER, the RTX 2070 's price is getting more discount.

NVIDIA ’s xx70 cards have always been defined by mid-range prices with performance that knocks on the door of high-end graphics cards – especially when overclocked. After taking the time to fully test the Turing graphics card inside the RTX 2070, we can say without a doubt that it continues the trend. The RTX 2070 is much more expensive than the GTX 1070 as it costs a whopping $ 499. Compare this to the GTX 1070, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti, which came originally at a price of $ 399, $ 409. Meanwhile, the AMD closest equivalent card is the RX 5700 XT which costs $ 399.

In our synthetic benchmarks, the RTX 2070 blows past the GTX 1070, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti and, amazingly, even the GTX 1080 as well. Unfortunately, gaming performance was not quite as impressive. Even if the RTX 2070 consistently delivers frame rate increases over the GTX 1070, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti, the gain is not much to justify an upgrade.

Whether it is a justifiable upgrade depends on what graphics card you are upgrading from. Users with a GTX 1070, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti will not see a remarkable increase in frame rates after paying more for this RTX 2070. Similarly, those holding onto RX 5700 XT 's RX Vega 56 graphics cards will not have a reason to jump teams yet. For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Metro Exodus, Borderlands 3, Anthem, Need For Speed: Heat at 65 fps to 88 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 75 fps.

For 1440p Quad HD, we were able to play Anthem, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy XV, Gears of War 5, Need For Speed: Heat at 64 fps to 69 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 68 fps. For 2160p 4K, we were able to play Call of Duty Modern Warfare, F1 2018, Forza Horizon 4 at 63 fps to 73 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 68 fps.

It is clear that the RX 5600 XT is a significantly more capable high-end card that can play AAA titles at 1080p/1440p with 50-60 frames per second. The price/performance ratio is excellent for RX 5600 XT against the competition in budget mid-range cards. In terms of memory, the RX 5600 XT 's 6144 MB RAM is more than enough for modern games and should not cause any bottlenecks. In short the performance is exceptional, there's no question that this is one of the most powerful single GPU out there in 2020 .

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 / i7-8700K

With some tuning, the RTX 2070 makes the most sense for gamers with 4K monitors. Though serious gamers hardly play at 4k. In terms of memory, the RTX 2070 's 8192 MB RAM is more than enough for modern games and should not cause any bottlenecks. 4K gaming is joyous on this RTX 2070 , and with a little tweaking to your AA settings, it'd be hard to imagine a title not capable of 60 fps on average.
