Our Verdict: At 1440p, RX 5500 XT 4GB can hit 50-60 frames per second on pretty much everything at ultra, just without antialiasing, less ambient occlusion and turned down shadows. Whereas GTX 1660 Ti can hit 50-60 frames per second at maximum settings. The GTX 1660 Ti is faster by 49% for 1440p gaming. For 1080p games, upgrading from RX 5500 XT 4GB to GTX 1660 Ti is not worth it if targeting 60 frames per second.

AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT 4GB

The RX 5700 might be the mid-range flagship of the latest RDNA 1.0 set of graphics cards, but their prices keep them out of the reach of most entry-level PC gamers. On the other hand, the RX 5500 XT 4GB is closer to being reasonably affordable at a price tag of $ 169. AMD ’s xx00 cards have always been defined by entry-level prices with performance that knocks on the door of mid-range graphics cards – especially when overclocked. After taking the time to fully test the RDNA 1.0 graphics card inside the RX 5500 XT 4GB, we can say without a doubt that it continues the trend.

Unfortunately, gaming performance was not quite as impressive. Even if the RX 5500 XT 4GB consistently delivers frame rate increases over the RX 570, the gain is not much to justify an upgrade. For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Apex Legends, F1 2019, Forza Horizon 4, Hitman 2 at 60 fps to 65 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 62 fps.

For 1440p Quad HD, we were able to play World War Z, Battlefield V, Valorant at 61 fps to 108 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 78 fps. For 2160p 4K, we were able to play Valorant at 94 fps to 94 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 94 fps.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti

NVIDIA ’s xx60 cards have always been defined by entry-level prices with performance that knocks on the door of mid-range graphics cards – especially when overclocked. After taking the time to fully test the Turing graphics card inside the GTX 1660 Ti, we can say without a doubt that it continues the trend. In our synthetic benchmarks, the GTX 1660 Ti blows past the GTX 1060 6GB and, amazingly, even the GTX 1070 as well.

Unfortunately, gaming performance was not quite as impressive. Even if the GTX 1660 Ti consistently delivers frame rate increases over the GTX 1060 6GB, the gain is not much to justify an upgrade. For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play Borderlands 3, Anthem, Need For Speed: Heat, Just Cause 4, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War at 62 fps to 77 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 70 fps.

For 1440p Quad HD, we were able to play GreedFall, Hitman 2, Death Stranding, F1 2019, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 at 64 fps to 70 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 68 fps. For 2160p 4K, we were able to play Valorant at 139 fps to 139 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 139 fps.

At 1440p, RX 5500 XT 4GB can hit 50-60 fps on pretty much everything at ultra, just without antialiasing, less ambient occlusion and turned down shadows. It is clear that the RX 5500 XT 4GB is a significantly more capable high-end card that can play AAA titles at 1080p/1440p with 50-60 frames per second. The price/performance ratio is excellent for RX 5500 XT 4GB against the competition in budget mid-range cards. With current 4096 MB RAM, the RX 5500 XT 4GB can have very few memory-related bottlenecks in more modern games.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti / i7-8700K

It is clear that the GTX 1660 Ti is a significantly more capable high-end card that can play AAA titles at 1080p/1440p with 50-60 frames per second. The price/performance ratio is excellent for GTX 1660 Ti against the competition in budget mid-range cards. In terms of memory, the GTX 1660 Ti 's 6144 MB RAM is more than enough for modern games and should not cause any bottlenecks. With regards to max load temperature, the GTX 1660 Ti 's cooling is excellent at keeping it cool and under control. In short the performance is exceptional, there's no question that this is one of the most powerful single GPU out there in 2019 .
