Our Verdict: At 1440p, RX 5500 XT 4GB can hit 50-60 frames per second on pretty much everything at ultra, just without antialiasing, less ambient occlusion and turned down shadows. Whereas GTX 1070 can hit 50-60 frames per second at maximum settings. The GTX 1070 is faster by 44% for 1440p gaming. For 1080p games, upgrading from RX 5500 XT 4GB to GTX 1070 is not worth it if targeting 60 frames per second. The price/performance ratio is much better for RX 5500 XT 4GB .

The RX 5700 might be the mid-range flagship of the latest RDNA 1.0 set of graphics cards, but their prices keep them out of the reach of most entry-level PC gamers. On the other hand, the RX 5500 XT 4GB is closer to being reasonably affordable at a price tag of $ 169. AMD ’s xx00 cards have always been defined by entry-level prices with performance that knocks on the door of mid-range graphics cards – especially when overclocked. After taking the time to fully test the RDNA 1.0 graphics card inside the RX 5500 XT 4GB, we can say without a doubt that it continues the trend.

Unfortunately, gaming performance was not quite as impressive. Even if the RX 5500 XT 4GB consistently delivers frame rate increases over the RX 570, the gain is not much to justify an upgrade. For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Apex Legends, F1 2019, Forza Horizon 4, Hitman 2 at 60 fps to 65 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 62 fps.

For 1440p Quad HD, we were able to play World War Z, Battlefield V, Valorant at 61 fps to 108 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 78 fps. For 2160p 4K, we were able to play Valorant at 94 fps to 94 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 94 fps.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070

The GTX 1080 might be the high-end flagship of the latest Pascal set of graphics cards, but their prices keep them out of the reach of most mid-range PC gamers. On the other hand, the GTX 1070 is closer to being reasonably affordable at a price tag of $ 399. The good news is, with the release of the GTX 1070 Ti, the GTX 1070 's price is getting more discount.

NVIDIA ’s xx70 cards have always been defined by mid-range prices with performance that knocks on the door of high-end graphics cards – especially when overclocked. After taking the time to fully test the Pascal graphics card inside the GTX 1070, we can say without a doubt that it continues the trend. Spec for spec, this GTX 1070 leapfrogs its direct predecessor, the GTX 970, by boasting 2 % more fps.

The GTX 1070 has 8 GB RAM compared to the GTX 970 's 4 GB video memory. In our synthetic benchmarks, the GTX 1070 blows past the GTX 970 and, amazingly, even the GTX 980 as well.

Fortunately, gaming performance was quite impressive. The GTX 1070 consistently delivers great frame rate increases over the GTX 970 and it really justifies an upgrade. For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play Anthem, Need For Speed: Heat, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Just Cause 4 at 64 fps to 75 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 71 fps.

For 1440p Quad HD, we were able to play GreedFall, Hitman 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Death Stranding, F1 2019 at 61 fps to 67 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 64 fps. For 2160p 4K, we were able to play Valorant at 134 fps to 134 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 134 fps.

It is clear that the RX 5500 XT 4GB is a significantly more capable high-end card that can play AAA titles at 1080p/1440p with 50-60 frames per second. The price/performance ratio is excellent for RX 5500 XT 4GB against the competition in budget mid-range cards. With current 4096 MB RAM, the RX 5500 XT 4GB can have very few memory-related bottlenecks in more modern games.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 / i7-6700K

It is clear that the GTX 1070 is a significantly more capable high-end card that can play AAA titles at 1080p/1440p with 50-60 frames per second. In terms of memory, the GTX 1070 's 8192 MB RAM is more than enough for modern games and should not cause any bottlenecks. In short the performance is exceptional, there's no question that this is one of the most powerful single GPU out there in 2016 .
