i5-8400
  • The i5-8400 is more power efficient and generates less heat.
Ryzen 7 2700X
  • The Ryzen 7 2700X has higher Level 2 Cache. Data/instructions which have to be processed can be loaded from the fast L2 and the CPU does not have to wait for the very slow DDR RAM
  • The Ryzen 7 2700X has higher Level 3 Cache. This is useful when you have substantial multiprocessing workloads, many computationally intense simultaneous processes. More likely on a server, less on a personally used computer for interactive desktop workloads.
  • The Ryzen 7 2700X has more cores. The benefit of having more cores is that the system can handle more threads. Each core can handle a separate stream of data. This architecture greatly increases the performance of a system that is running concurrent applications.
  • The Ryzen 7 2700X has more threads. Larger programs are divided into threads (small sections) so that the processor can execute them simultaneously to get faster execution.
  • For some games, a cpu with a higher clock speed, or in a technical name IPC (Instructions per clock), has better results than other CPU's with higher core count and lower core speed.
  • The Ryzen 7 2700X has a higher turbo clock boost. Turbo Boost is a CPU feature that will run CPU clock speed faster than its base clock, if certain conditions are present. It will enable older software that runs on fewer cores, to perform better on newer hardware. Since games are software too, it is also applicable to them.
  • The Ryzen 7 2700X has a smaller process size. The faster a transistor can toggle on and off, the faster it can do work. And transistors that turn on and off with less energy are more efficient, reducing the operating power, or “dynamic power consumption,” required by a processor.

i5 8400 vs i5 8600kDoes the Base clock really matter.?i5 8400(2.8Ghz) vs i5 8600k(3.6Ghz)Because the Turbo clock frequency is almost near 8400(4Ghz) and 8600K(4.3Ghz).Dose the Base Clock difference of 1Ghz really matters.?

I guess what this really hinges on is whether or not you want to overclock. The base clocks don't really matter because they turbo to whatever the turbo speed is anyway when doing work. When looking at the turbo speeds there is a 300MHz difference between the 2 processors. That's not very significant so the 2 should perform similarly in games. It's only when you start to overclock the 8600K that the 2 processors start to really differ from each other. Really when overclocked the Core i5 8600K shouldn't be much different than the Core i7 8700K in gaming. If it were me and I wanted to save some money I'd go ahead and get the Core i5 8400. If money was no object well then I wouldn't even consider the 8600K. I'd go ahead and get the 8700K. The 8600K should only be considered if you plan to overclock and can't afford the 8700K. The thing is... I can't decide for you. You have to make the decision but hopefully I have given you enough information to make it.

16gb i3 8100? or 8gb i5 8400?so i'm building a gaming pc and i was wondering if i really needed 16gb of ram if a went with a better processor like the i5 8400 instead of the i3 8100 (i know 16gb is "needed" either way but... )basically i'm interested in the in-game performance difference i'll experiance.what will give me more fps in games?gtx 1080/i5 8400/8gb ram?gtx 1080/i3 8100/16gb ram?

There's no such thing as an odd combination... you're not forced to go amd with amd or intel with nvidia. The CPUs will perform the same with either AMD or NVidia as a GPU. You'll get better framerates with the i5-8400, so if the main purpose of your build is gaming, then you should go with it.The ryzen 5 2600 will do better in productivity tasks, but will lack a bit behind intel in games. Depending on the deals you can go either way... it really depends on what you're using the PC for.

I5 6500 vs I5 8400I have a really good bottleneck in games like GTA V and BF1 cuz I have GTX 1070 with I5 6500,playing on ultra and it's very hard to get stable 60 FPS while I watched a couple of videos on youtube pairing GTX 1070 with i5 8400 and the FPS changes a lot so I'm wondering if that is the truth.

i5-8400 motherboard and ram comboHi, i am thinking of upgrading my pc as i only have a low quality cpu atm and was wondering if the i5 8400 is worth its money. If so, im thinking of a price range between £300-£350 for a new cpu, motherboard and ram, as im looking for only 8gb of ram. I was wondering if you could help me out by telling me the best budget combo with a i5 8400.I will be playing games like overwatch, GTA V, far cry 5 , battlefied 1 etc..Thankyou!

I5-8400, With a Z370 board permits you more channels for PCIE (24 instead of 20 on the H310) permits to upgrade later to an I7-8700K when everyone jump ship and upgrade to the next and greatest cpus out there... Ram for Intel is suggested to be DDR4-2666, Asus Z370 Tuff can squeeze (oc) the ram and get easy peasy speeds with the price of a 2666 instead of paying for addition speed.. and yes get 16GB of ram.
