i5 7640x its almost the same as the 7600k only different socket and no igpu, both i5 7640x and i7 7740x are not worth it imo, if you are going x299 platform the only cpus that takes advantage of the "upgrade" are i7 7800x, i7 7820x and i9 7900x. the other 2 cpus will be expensive to consider them a place holder.

It's only 4 threads, that's the main issue.
It isn't beating the i5s, that's false, it's still behind by a fair margin, but it'll last much longer in terms of lifespan, since games are quickly becoming even more multi-threaded, especially with DX12.
      Still keeps up too.
      @siddhartha mudgal, the 1600 has 6 cores with AMD's version of Hyperthreading @ 3.2GHz and a better cooler, and the 1500X is 4 cores 8 threads @3.5GHz.
With a b350 board both can easily be OC'd to 3.8GHz, or even 3.9-4GHz if you get a good chip.

Because the motherboards for that i5 cost a fortune.
If you need single core performance then get this:
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

      CPU: Intel - Core i3-8350K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor (6.99 @ SuperBiiz)
      CPU Cooler: CRYORIG - H7 49.0 CFM CPU Cooler (.89 @ OutletPC)
      Motherboard: MSI - Z370 GAMING PLUS ATX LGA1151 Motherboard (4.99 @ Amazon)
      Total: 6.87
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

you could easily google it and it will say LGA 2066. What motherboard did you buy?

      i5-7640X O.Cing help!
      hey guys!

      I5-7640x?
      (current overclock:http://)
(the biggest mistake in my life!)
and what Water cooling should I use for overclocking? (current watercooling: h55 corsair)
I thought about H100x with 2000 RPM fans (worth it?)
because I getting like 47-54 celsious on idle!!!!!!!!
thanks! ^^ have a nice day!

The thing is, air passing through the radiator heats up by cooling down the radiator > inside the case gets hotter (One guy couldn't touch the case side panel). That's why it's recommended to use it for exhaust, not intake. Of course, if you have 2-3 fans for exhaust it's not going to make much difference (5c), but most people don't use too many fans to get good airflow. (I have 6 fans on my case).

Also, do note your overclocked I5-7640X should output about 150W or more heat, compared to the most 90W CPUs. That's why I recommend exhaust.

As for articles, just google "case radiator as intake".

      Intel Core i5-7640X?
I had a question. I was looking at Intel I5 CPU's and saw the Core i5-7640X. So what is the difference between this CPU and a regular K version I5. Is it suppose to be an "Xtreme" CPU like what Intel use to do? If so who is it suppose to be marketed to? Compared to the past this doesn't seem that "Xtreme" at all it is still four core four threads CPU. Sure it starts at 4 GHZ but that is something that you should be able to reach pretty easily with a good motherboard and regular K model I5. Also it isn't priced like an Xtreme CPU. If I remember right didn't the old Xtreme CPU's cost clost to or a little over 1000 dollars? This is priced at what the Sandy Bridges and Ivy Bridges i5 2XXXK used to cost. This seems kind of like a pointless SKU. It's seems like nothing more than a pre-overclocked I5.

its basically the same as i5 7600k without igpu and works in a more expensive platform socket lga2066 (x299) wich makes no sense because the cpu only supports 16 pcie lanes and dual channel memory so you are basically wasting half the mobo with this cpu. Oh they are supposed to OC higher than the mainstream i5 7600k but have not seen a single review comparing them or addressing this claim. In my opinion is just a waste of resources.
